Year of the Moth: Pictures by Jackie Scharenberg, opening Wednesday, August 6 at The Dark Room

‘Year of the Moth,’ that includes images by Jackie Scharenberg, is a little bit of a love letter to St. Louis and the sweetness that may be present in all the metropolis’s nooks and crannies. The title displays Scharenberg’s evening images and attraction to a light-weight in the dead of night.

“Last year I started actively seeking out ways to incorporate my love of photography into my everyday life. Because I work 8-5, I began taking my camera on my commute before and after work to fit in time for my favorite hobby,” Scharenberg says. “As a result, many of my photographs are night scenes that I captured in the early hours of the morning or on my drive home after the sun had already set. My favorite photos from this project are those simple single light source shots that feel a little lonely, mysterious, and attractive all at once.” 

Scharenberg is a St. Louis-based photographer recognized for capturing quiet, atmospheric moments in city areas, typically underneath the duvet of evening. With a ardour for storytelling and a deep appreciation for the neglected great thing about metropolis life, she transforms atypical settings into cinematic scenes. Her work invitations viewers to decelerate and spot the magic hidden in on a regular basis environments.

Year of the Moth is viewable throughout The Dark Room gallery’s common hours: 6 pm-10 pm Wednesdays, no appointment needed, in addition to throughout scheduled occasions.
