Decatur-Morgan Hospital to supply free swimming classes in reminiscence of 3-year-old boy

He drowned in a pool on his third birthday.

Holly Wyatt is working to ensure that what occurred to her son doesn’t occur to anybody else.

She is partnering with the Decatur-Morgan Hospital Foundation to create a fund that may pay at no cost swimming classes for kids in Morgan County.

The fund is named Drake’s Fund.

Wyatt mentioned she’ll always remember November 27, 2009.

“It’s just a day that’s forever ingrained in my mind,” mentioned Wyatt. ”The emotions and the sounds, the visuals of simply them bringing my son out to the ambulance.”

Wyatt is a nurse at Decatur Morgan-Hospital.

Her son, Drake, drowned throughout his third birthday celebration on November 27, 2009.

“We were just getting ready to celebrate,” mentioned Wyatt. ”We had been attempting to go get him a birthday cake and have him open presents, and that’s once we realized he was subsequent to me, one minute, and the subsequent second, he was simply gone.”

Wyatt mentioned that she relied closely on religion and her family members to get by way of the ache of dropping her son.

“Getting through the grief was extremely hard,” mentioned Wyatt. ”You’re residing your life for this baby and doing all the things you may. It was my complete world. Everything that I did in life was for him.”

“Every time I hear a drowning, it brings back those feelings. And I’d like to see less of that.”

And that’s precisely what Wyatt’s objective is with Drake’s Fund.

Funds donated will probably be used to sponsor free swimming classes for kids who apply to this system.

In reality, some kids will probably be receiving free swimming classes this month, due to Drake’s Fund.
