Artist Discuss: Carla Williams in Dialog with Deborah Willis

To have a good time opening weekend of Photography and the Black Arts Movement: 1955-1985, be a part of us for a dialog between exhibition artist Carla Williams and exhibition co-curator Deborah Willis, college professor and chair of the division of images and imaging on the Tisch School of the Arts and director of the Center for Black Visual Culture at New York University. Their dialogue will discover Williams’ artistic work as an artist, scholar, author, and editor, which has championed photographs of and by Black girls. Williams is thought for intensely private self-portraits, like Untitled (Curlers) #1.2 on view within the exhibition, which is the primary to think about images’s affect on a cultural and aesthetic motion that celebrated Black historical past, identification, and wonder.

About Photography and the Black Arts Movement, 1955–1985
