Photographer David Lanoie and different Keizerites present works at Englewood competition

Keizer artists will showcase their work at a free outside competition on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Englewood Park in Salem.

According to Sarah Rohrs, who helps set up the occasion, the Englewood Forest Festival “is unique in that it combines nature-based activities with a full day of art, live music, and dance.”

The competition will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can function a various vary of artists. 

David Lanoie, a Keizer wildlife photographer, is amongst them. 

“They reached out to me and asked if I was interested in running a booth for the festival, and I said sure,” he stated.

Lanoie, an in-home caregiver for people with disabilities, primarily shoots wildlife and landscapes. His portfolio contains pictures of waterfalls and coated bridges. He shoots usually at Minto-Brown Island Park, capturing herons, blacktail fawns, and nice horned owls. 

“I’ve always been an outdoor person,” Lanoie stated. “I’m from Maine originally, so I’ve hiked all the major peaks out there. Then we moved to Oregon in 2016, and I started seeing the waterfalls out here. That’s when I started getting into photography.”

His favourite landscapes embody the Oregon Coast, Minto-Brown Island Park, and Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge.

One of his favourite pictures is of a particular owl at Minto-Brown Park.

“I’ve been following the great horned owls at Minto for years,” he stated. “This year, I’ve been following two owlets that were born in March, and just watching them grow from little white furballs. I just got a picture of one a couple of days ago that I was pretty happy about.”

Lanoie will share the photograph, together with different prints, on the competition.

Sarah Hoggatt, whose household as soon as owned the Keizer Rapids Park property, may also show her work. She will carry out her poetry throughout an open mic section at 3:15 p.m. 

Clinton O’Brien an artisan who will promote his wind chimes created from driftwood and objects discovered at thrift shops.

“His work fits into the environmental theme of the festival nicely,” famous Rohrs.

Amanda Ohrn is a Keizer potter who may also host a sales space. Her work contains plates, vases, and low mugs. 

Joshua Jabin creates sculptures and jewellery from recycled wooden. He’s bought his work on the competition for a number of years and can return for an additional present.
