Man speaks out after swimming two miles to security in Lake Superior

DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – The man who survived a two-mile swim in frigid Lake Superior is talking out Wednesday in an unique interview with Northern News Now.

Peter Joice was on his technique to an annual fishing journey with buddies at Isle Royale, however issues took a flip for the worst when he fell off the boat into Lake Superior.

The captain of the boat was unaware Joice had fallen and continued ahead.

“When I ended up in the water and I saw my boat trailing away I just kind of came to grips with the situation,” mentioned Joice.

He mentioned he was leaning on the flawed a part of the boat and ended up within the water.

Joice knew immediately that panicking may imply sure demise.

“Keeping a cool head I think is important,” mentioned Joice. “Panicking isn’t going to help any situation.”

His fall was reported by the captain of the boat to authorities and the search effort was initiated. Eventually, Joice was rescued by The Grand Portage Tribal Authorities and different companies.

Joice expressed gratitude to everybody that assisted in his rescue, from his father and son who known as the coast guard, to his mother who signed him up for swimming classes when he was a younger child.
