Elevate at 21c: Daniel Hojnacki

21c Museum Hotel Chicago is happy to current D (US) T, a solo exhibition by Daniel Hojnacki.  As part of the Elevate collection at 21c Chicago, the work is on view from August – October in Gallery 3. 

D (US) T is a set of labor that contemplates the temporality of the physique and its intrinsic interconnectedness with the cosmic panorama. Combining an array of experimental approaches to the equipment of images, I invite moments of stillness and poetic reflection. Photographs of my breath are suspended in frost, fingerprints are stilled with smoke soot, and a plume of mud is blown, hovering amongst the air. These data of performative and fleeting gestures with images are paired with a number of collaged discovered poetry redacted from a classic ebook on planetary science, bringing collectively a set of labor that quietly observes and displays on the brevity of mortality and the passage of time. 

Daniel Hojnacki (b.1989) makes use of experimental methods in images to analyze the quietness of being an observer inside the world, creating work that explores the significance of materiality within the image-making course of. Daniel seeks out methods of recording the motion of the physique and pure world, trusting probability happenings inside images to seize the delicate and fleeting textural gestures round us. Daniel obtained his MFA from the University of New Mexico in 2022 and a BA from Columbia College Chicago in 2011. He is a recipient of the Penumbra Foundation Workspace Artist-In-Residence, LATITUDE Residency, The Patrick Nagatani Photography Scholarship, and The Phyllis Muth Arts Award, amongst different honors. He has exhibited work on the Museum of Contemporary Photography, University of New Mexico Art Museum, and the Chicago Cultural Center. His work has been featured in Aint-Bad, Pamplemousse Magazine, and Southwest Contemporary Magazine. He at present lives and works in Chicago, IL. 

Elevate at 21c presents non permanent exhibitions of works by artists residing and dealing within the communities surrounding every 21c Museum Hotel. Elevate gives lodge friends and guests with distinctive entry to the work of notable regional artists, whereas that includes their work within the context of 21c’s modern artwork area.
