Sheila Jordan, one of many nice underappreciated voices in jazz, dies at age 96 : NPR

She recorded a magical debut album on Blue Note and was later named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment of the Arts.

Singer Sheila Jordan has died on the age of 96.

SHEILA JORDAN: (Singing) I’m only a girl, a lonely girl, ready on a weary shore.

ULABY: Jordan, who was white, turned good pals with Parker and went on to work with many Black jazz artists, typically dealing with violent racism due to it. Her voice was not like another.

JORDAN: (Singing) I fell in love with love one evening when the moon was excessive. I used to be unwise with eyes unable to see. I fell in love with love, with love eternal. But love fell out with me.
