— It was cool and overcast for the beginning of the Young Life Triathlon in Detroit Lakes on Saturday morning. More than 300 individuals registered to compete in dash and Olympic distances, together with paddle and relay divisions, to boost cash for the native Young Life chapter. The race entails swimming (or paddling), biking and working.

The dash triathlon lined 16 miles, with a half-mile swim, 12.4-mile bike journey and three.1-mile run, whereas the Olympic distance doubled the mileage at 32 miles, with a swim slightly below one mile, a 25-mile bike journey and a 6.2-mile run.

The paddle division permits opponents to substitute the swim with a two-mile paddleboard or kayak phase earlier than starting a dash or Olympic-distance race. Relay groups can break up the disciplines amongst contributors.
