Train derailment in Halifax County cancels Amtrak routes in Raleigh and throughout the nation :: WRAL.com

A CSX practice derailment in Halifax County has canceled Amtrak practice routes throughout the nation, together with some routes to and from Raleigh. 

A CSX spokesperson mentioned the practice derailed 28 loaded coal vehicles on a passenger service route east of West Franklin Street in Enfield round 4 p.m. on Sunday.

“Due to one of our rail partners trains blocking the route, Carolinian Train 79 is canceled between New York (NYP) and Raleigh (RGH),” Amtrak Alerts posted on X round 2 a.m. 

Enfield Mayor Mondale Robinson mentioned the derailment occurred outdoors of town limits of Enfield.

No one was damage, and the derailment didn’t impression any waterways or launch dangerous toxins, in response to CSX, which mentioned “there is no threat to the surrounding community.”

According to Amtrak’s web site, all routes from Washington, D.C., to Raleigh are canceled. 

At least 11 routes from Miami to New York have been canceled because of the derailment, in response to Amtrak Alerts.
