‘Tell Me Lies’ star Grace Van Patten tackles the true story of Amanda Knox in Hulu’s ‘The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox’

Amanda Knox has been a family identify since 2007. She was a 20-year outdated change scholar in Perugia, Italy, when she was accused and wrongfully convicted, alongside together with her then boyfriend, of murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher. “To be able to show how she felt when she was being interrogated for over 50 hours straight in a different language, the confusion she felt, the specific emotions that she was going through when she was brought into prison and had no idea what was going on, and just trying to be really specific with what she was going through because that’s what the public does not know,” Van Patten continued.

Those scenes are pivotal to Knox’s mindset. And Van Patten’s efficiency impressed everybody on set, together with Knox, who’s an government producer on the sequence.

“She has to span a huge time of my life, the best moments of my life, the worst moment of my life. She has to do it in English and Italian. She worked her butt off for this series and I hope she gets the credit she deserves because she’s a star,” Knox stated.

“From the early interactions with her, I could tell that she was paying attention to me,” she continued. “Like, to this day, I am the kind of person who finds the silver linings, who like retains the silliness. And I think she really found that balance of gravitas and whimsy that I think really defines me. And I think, she so elegantly captured that.”

“There was never a false moment. But one of my favorite memories of (Van Patten) was we were shooting what was to be the dinner scene with Meredith and her British friends in Perugia. Grace embodied (sic) Amanda, takes a plate and licks it in this adorable, sort of crude, charming way. And she managed to make us all fall in love with her. And she’s really struck that balance of being a little bit unique and eccentric, but also being grounded in realness and truth,” stated sequence creator Ok.J. Steinberg.

“For all the dimensions, for the horror of the story, the moments of joy before this tragic murder, Grace really understood it and could capture the spirit of Amanda,” stated government producer Warren Littlefield.

“She’s just fantastic. You know, when we got to spend time together, it was just basically being there and being emotionally available and present for one another,” stated John Hoogenakker, who performs Knox’s dad. “As a performer, she just gives so much. It was an absolute joy to get to work with her and Sharon (Horgan, who plays Knox’s mom) as well. We were very, very lucky all around.”

“Her father, Curt, was an accountant and, you know, in media coverage of him at the time, he worked tirelessly to sort of recast Amanda as the person that she is, away from the person she was depicted as,” Hoogenaker stated.

“This journey that I’ve been on to reclaim my identity, to reclaim my story, to claim a sense of agency in my life. These are the ways that I have found my own freedom, made my own freedom out of nothing. And that’s what the story really is all about,” stated Knox.

“I really hope people come out of this understanding her more. She has been very misunderstood, and I hope people gain empathy for her in this situation,” stated Van Patten.

The first two episodes of “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox” are streaming now on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. New episodes will stream every Wednesday till the finale on October 1.
