AS A PHOTOJOURNALIST, I’ve witnessed firsthand how local weather change is shaping life in Kashmir, from snowfalls and receding glaciers to scorching warmth waves and erratic rainfall. I’ve seen rivers drying, houseboats sitting within the dried portion. [This June] once I reached the outskirts of the capital metropolis, Srinagar, children have been enjoying, bathing, cooling themselves throughout an intense warmth wave.

There is a lot pleasure within the picture, but local weather change brings a lot gloom. Growing up, we had a really balanced local weather. Summers have been delicate, winters introduced snowfall, and every season had its personal rhythm. But now it feels the seasons are shifting. Farmers wrestle as a result of crops don’t reply nicely to new climate patterns. Saffron, the most costly spice on the planet, which Kashmir is legendary for, wants a sure form of autumn, however now it’s disappearing. Sowing and harvesting cycles are not dependable. People wrestle with water shortages.

Despite all the things — battle, local weather, and financial wrestle — folks transfer ahead. Farmers attempt new strategies. It offers me hope, too, that the world is listening even just a bit. I’m a practising Muslim and in Islam, nature is taken into account a belief, one thing sacred that we’re liable for. My religion teaches me to witness the reality and communicate for justice. Photography is a technique I attempt to do it. I hope my pictures make you see not simply the great thing about Kashmir or the struggling of its folks, however the complicated actuality they reside in: A area formed by battle, deeply human, and profoundly susceptible to local weather change.

If even one picture helps a policymaker contemplate a choice or a reader hook up with a narrative from a faraway place, then the {photograph} has performed the work.
