“Training full time was a game-changer,” Williams mentioned. “When you go from one hour a day to 20 hours a week, the results start to show.”

And they did. At the 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago, Williams discovered himself within the finals of the 400-meter freestyle. At the 300-meter mark, he was in useless final. But in a real superhero-style twist, he launched a come-from-behind dash that earned him the silver medal and a Minimum Qualifying Standard.

“I looked up at the scoreboard and saw a ‘2’ next to my name and thought, ‘Wait … me?’ That was when it really hit me — this is my career.”

“There were days I wanted to quit,” he mentioned. “But then I thought about working in an office 40 hours a week and yeah, no thanks.”
