Barrier Installation, Line Striping Planned at Night Aug. 25-27 on Interstate 95 North in South Philadelphia

August 25, 2025 – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) introduced at this time that barrier set up and line striping will happen at evening on northbound I-95 in South Philadelphia below a $37.4 million undertaking to carry out high-priority repairs on interstate bridges, to take care of the performance, security, and mobility of the buildings alongside vital corridors.

Motorists are suggested to permit additional time when touring by means of the work areas as a result of backups and delays will happen. All scheduled actions are climate dependent.

Under this contract, PennDOT’s contractor will make repairs to the deteriorated bridge decks, superstructure elements, and parts of the substructures as wanted.

Work on the superstructures will embody repairing fabricated structural metal, weld cracks, prestressed concrete beams, strengthened concrete bridge deck, bridge railing, guiderail, and metal signal helps; and changing current growth joints, seal current deck joints, and current strip seal glands on the bridge decks.

Work on the substructures will embody repairing or reconstructing bearing pedestals, metal mounted bearings, and deteriorated parts of concrete substructure; cleansing bridge seats; resetting growth bearings; and eradicating particles from below the bridges.

In addition to bridge repairs, 11 overhead metal signal buildings can be cleaned and repainted. Existing roadway lighting can even be upgraded to LED luminaires. 

IEW Construction Group, Inc. of Hamilton, N.J., is the overall contractor on the undertaking, which is financed with 100% federal funds.
