Photographer banned after being at heart of Daniil Medvedev US Open controversy

A photographer who interrupted play for almost seven minutes by stepping on the courtroom at Louis Armstrong Stadium in the midst of a US Open first-round match between Daniil Medvedev and Benjamin Bonzi had his credential revoked for the rest of the match, the USTA introduced within the early hours of Monday morning.

The photographer has not been recognized.

As Bonzi was serving at match level — main 6-3, 7-5, 5-4 — a photographer entered the courtroom for an unknown purpose, which led the chair umpire Greg Allensworth to name for time on the courtroom.

“Wait, please, not now,” Allensworth yelled. “Get off the court, please.”

The cameraman was making an attempt to depart after Bonzi missed his first serve. Allensworth opted to provide the Frenchman one other first serve, resulting in Medvedev confronting the umpire in anger.

“First serve. Ladies and gentlemen, because of the delay caused by an onside interference, first serve has been granted,” Allensworth introduced.

Medvedev raised his arms as much as encourage extra “boos” from the gang and instantly approached Allensworth in regards to the name.

“Are you a man? Are you a man? Why are you shaking? What’s wrong, huh? Guys, he wants to leave. He gets paid by the match, not by the hour,” the No. 13 seed stated into the published digital camera that was subsequent to the chair umpire.

Bonzi refused to serve till the gang stopped booing and yelling “Second serve!,” inflicting a prolonged delay.

When resuming play, Bonzi was unable to shut out the match, and Medvedev powered by way of to win the subsequent two units, forcing a decisive fifth.

However, the previous 2021 U.S. Open champion fell quick, and Bonzi earned the upset with a 6-3, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 0-6, 6-4 win.

Medvedev repeatedly smashed his racket in a tantrum after the controversial match.
