Palestinian refugee kids share their tales by means of images and artwork – Save the Children Australia

After the workshop, every baby obtained a scrapbook and a digicam to maintain, permitting them to proceed capturing completely different facets of their lives in Egypt. The scrapbooks included prompts to information their images and encourage reflection on their each day experiences – from life after fleeing battle to resettling in Cairo.  

With the help of volunteers, the youngsters photographed their households, associates, properties, and significant private objects. They stuffed their scrapbooks with these pictures, together with drawings and written reflections. Through this inventive course of, they captured not solely their current actuality but additionally reminiscences of Palestine and a collective sense of pleasure of their identification: 

“My Superpower would be the ability to change events in order to help my country become free,” wrote 12-year outdated Rawan^*

“When I enter the child friendly space,” Shadi wrote in his scrapbook, “I feel as if I have entered my second home, a place that embraces me with love and safety. Here, the colours are as bright as my dreams.” 

13-year-old Khaled^* with the scrapbook he stuffed together with his pictures, drawings and journal entries. 

“I feel proud that I am Palestinian,” Khaled wrote. “I feel proud that I am a child with my own identity and feel I have a positive future. I will work hard until I return to my country and home, Gaza, where I was born and raised.”   

With each picture, sketch and sentence, these younger refugees present us who they’re, the place they arrive from, and what they dream of. They are giving a voice to a era of youngsters who refuse to be forgotten.
