Life-threatening waves on Great Lakes. Beach hazard forecast for Aug. 28

High waves and robust currents will create life-threatening circumstances throughout Michigan’s Great Lakes for swimmers and boaters, the National Weather Service stated because it introduced advisories for Thursday, Aug. 28, by the morning of Aug. 29.

“Wind and wave action will cause currents on the lakeshore. Swimmers should not enter the water,” the National Weather Service stated. “Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake.”

Beach hazards and small craft advisories are in place alongside areas of Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Superior.

Around Michigan’s thumb, from Huron County to St. Clair County, officers forecast the utmost wave heights as much as 8 ft in Lake Huron with wind gusts as much as 29 knots (33 mph).

In Lake Michigan, beach-goers from Manistee County south to Berrien County ought to watch out for robust rip currents, waves as much as 6 ft excessive and gusts reaching 25 knots (28 mph).
