Marathon City Fun Days hosts aggressive baggage match

MARATHON CITY, Wis. (WSAW) – Labor Day is the final day of Marathon City Fun Days. Even although the rides might not have been there, the competitors was.

Eighteen groups competed in a pleasant, however aggressive baggage match at Marathon City Veterans Park.

“Only friendly name-calling, right? Keep it PG,” mentioned Preston Rau.

For him and his household, corn gap is simply what they do.

“If we weren’t here throwing, we’d find a different place to throw it today. And yeah, it’s more or less your schedule on weekends. It’s like, well, where’s the corn hole tournament this time?” mentioned Rau.

Rau’s enjoying along with his brother and uncle, and so they’re not messing round.

“I’m trying to win this. Yeah, that’s and have fun,” Rau mentioned.

His sister is a three-time ladies’s champion for the American Cornhole Association. Rau mentioned his entire household congregates for luggage.

“A couple weeks ago, we had a family tournament where we all got together and it was a heated battle to try to win and the grand prize is a bag of Tootsie Rolls.”

His household travels to completely different states to compete in bag tournaments and performs the sport every time potential.

“Me and my wife, Jamie, we just celebrated our one-year anniversary a week ago and at the wedding, instead of having a dance, we had a corn hole tournament where me and my sister partnered up and we were able to win. So, I did get, I won twice that day, a wonderful wife and a championship with my sister,” Rau mentioned.

“They’re very competitive,” mentioned organizer Joe Buchberger, in regards to the competitors. “The ones that come down to the end, those games could take a long time because it’s, it comes, becomes strategy because if you, you can’t go over 21.”

Bags match opponents don’t need to go over 21, or they bust. They can bounce baggage so long as they’re in between the picket plank and the board.”

Buchberger said if this were a corn hole tournament, bags could not bounce at all, and scores could go over 21. Buchberger likes that this event keeps people coming to Marathon city fun days, raises some money for the American Legion, and lets people have fun.

“It becomes like a big family and it’s just a nice day to come and hang out and tell stories and make fun of each other and have a good time,” said Rau.

This is the tenth year Marathon City Fun Days has had its ‘Bean Bag Tourney.’ It is put on by The American Legion.
