The Albany group is inspired to appoint distinctive people, organisations, and occasions for the 2026 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.
These awards rejoice the exceptional and sometimes unrecognised contributions of residents who assist make Albany a vibrant, compassionate, and caring group. The program fosters a optimistic group spirit, acknowledges native leaders, and raises consciousness of the invaluable, largely voluntary work happening throughout town.
Nominations are open now and shut on Friday, October 31, 2025.
Recognising native heroes for greater than 20 years, the awards embrace 4 classes:
•Community Citizen of the Year (for people over 16 years)
•Young Community Citizen of the Year (for people aged 16-30 years)
•Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for people aged 65 years and over)

Presented alongside the Community Citizen of the Year Awards for the third consecutive yr is the Annette Knight Community Leadership Medal. Deputy Mayor Paul Terry mentioned the awards are a significant approach to honour those that give their time, power, and coronary heart to constructing a stronger Albany.
“The Community Citizen of the Year Awards shine a light on those people and groups who quietly go about making our city better,” he mentioned.
“The Annette Knight Medal is very near our hearts. In simply two years we’ve got seen it awarded to Barbara Thomas, whose a long time of care on the Hospice present the facility of compassion, and to Averil Dean, whose cultural management and delicate affect proceed to form our group for the higher.
“These are the people who lead with purpose, not for recognition. These awards are about recognising them.”
