Cross Nation Posts Spectacular Displaying in Season Opener

HARTFORD, Conn. — UConn ladies’s cross nation had a formidable begin to their 2025 season, with all six runners ending within the high 10 on the University of Hartford Invitational at Keney Park.

Ally McCarthy (Sandy Hook, Conn.) set a brand new course document within the 3K race, ending first with a personal-best time of 10:44.0 to start her season. Claire Paci (Greencastle, Pa.), Loghan Hughes (Enosburg, Vt.), and Megan Minicucci (Bolton, Conn.) positioned second, third, and fourth, respectively. Paci and Hughes achieved new private bests within the 3K. Calista Mayer (Tolland, Conn.) completed sixth with a 3K personal-best of 10:59.1. Samantha Moore (Portland, Me.) took seventh in her collegiate debut, posting a time of 11:06.7.

“Despite the really tough conditions of heat and humidity, our women executed the race plan. They got out quickly and controlled the race from the start,” stated Head Coach Beth Alford-Sullivan. “Excited for Ally [McCarthy] setting a course record to start her senior campaign. All six runners finishing in the top 10 is a great way to start the season.”

The Huskies will return to motion in two weeks on the Ted Owen Invitational in New Britain on Saturday, September 20.
