City of Broadway seeks upgrades to neighborhood swimming pool

BROADWAY, Va. (WHSV) – A staple within the city of Broadway is in search of vital upgrades to make sure the security of these locally.

As this pool was constructed within the Fifties, it now requires pressing updates to make sure security, performance, and financial sustainability.

“There are features of the pool that are showing their age,” city supervisor, Tracey Shiflett, stated.

Shiftett stated there’s a leak within the pool that threatens the inspiration, and the pool lining must be changed.

The city of Broadway has now utilized for a $300,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund 50/50 matching grant via the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to help in funding the crucial repairs.

“The grant itself will cover the leak, it will also cover relining the pool, which is showing its age, and replacing the filter house, which is very small, cramped, and outdated; that is approximately $600,000 total cost, with $300,000 being the grant,” he stated.

The city has already begun planning for the repairs.

“We have already set aside money for pool repairs, so we will make repairs regardless, it may just take longer, as we fix problems and wait till we raise more funds to fix the rest of them. Regardless, we are going to address those issues,” Shiflett stated.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is anticipated to inform challenge sponsors of funding in October of this yr.

Shiflett stated that they wish to give the neighborhood the absolute best amenities.

“This will allow us to keep operating it the way it is, make improvements to make sure it lasts well into the future,” he stated.
