The City of Asheville broadcasts in the present day that roughly $11 million in further federal funding has been authorized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist restoration efforts following the impacts of Tropical Storm Helene. These funds will likely be directed towards vital water system initiatives that may assist shield the town’s watershed and strengthen long-term neighborhood resilience.
“On behalf of the City of Asheville, I want to thank the Department of Homeland Security for approving critical funds to support our community’s recovery from Tropical Storm Helene. These resources will not only help us rebuild but will also strengthen resilience in our water system and our watershed for the future. We are deeply grateful to our partners at FEMA, as well as Senators Ted Budd and Thom Tillis, and Congressman Chuck Edwards, for their continued advocacy and support of Asheville,” stated Mayor Esther Manheimer
This preliminary funding is a big milestone because the City continues working with state and federal companions to safe further assets mandatory to completely restore and safeguard important infrastructure.
Today, Mayor Manheimer is in Washington, D.C. with Governor Josh Stein to advocate for additional funding allocations for Asheville and the broader Western North Carolina area.
