Why swimming at state park seashores is ‘not recommended’ after Labor Day

If you don’t see buoys, swimming is just not really useful.

That’s the phrase from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, which started the method of eradicating swim buoys and the Great Lakes flag system from many state park seashores this week.

Once buoys are eliminated – a course of that at all times begins after Labor Day – the world is now not thought of a chosen swim space.

While the seashore stays open to the general public, swimming is just not really useful, and beachgoers are urged to pay eager consideration to climate and water situations.

“Due to high winds, waves and rapidly changing water temperatures during the off-season, buoys are typically installed before Memorial Day weekend and removed after Labor Day,” stated Pat Whalen, Plainwell District supervisor for the DNR Parks and Recreation Division.

“The flag system is also removed until the buoyed swim areas are established the next season.”
