The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee will host a public lecture to commemorate a decade because the groundbreaking detection of gravitational waves, or ripples in space-time brought on by cosmic collisions of black holes and neutron stars. UWM scientists performed a pivotal position within the discovery, which confirmed a significant prediction of Einstein’s normal concept of relativity and contributed to a Nobel Prize in Physics.

UWM researchers helped detect gravitational waves from a cataclysmic occasion within the distant universe. Their work was instrumental in figuring out the waves as the results of colliding black holes, utilizing superior analytical instruments and a community of supercomputers to course of large quantities of information.
Patrick Brady, UWM physics professor and key contributor to the invention, and fellow scientists concerned will share insights into what has been realized about black holes and neutron stars since that first commentary.
The occasion is hosted by the Leonard E. Parker Center for Gravitation, Cosmology and Astrophysics, in partnership with the Manfred Olson Planetarium.
