When Dutch images duo Anuschka Blommers and Niels Schumm met within the early nineties, it signalled the beginning of a artistic partnership outlined by provocation and playfulness. Known as Blommers & Schumm, work is on the intersection of trend and nice artwork, with a dollop of added humour.
The duo’s editorials for publications embrace Fantastic Man, The Gentlewoman, Dazed & Confused, Self Service, Purple, AnOther Magazine, and The New York Times Magazine, encompassing an avant-garde informality all through. Work is outlined by an uncanny edge – the small print are polished, but one thing is somewhat off.

It is a profession Blommers & Schumm are reflecting on as their first main solo exhibition, opens at Foam in Amsterdam, which unites 25 years of labor. ‘Through the years we’ve carried out so many alternative shoots,’ they are saying. ‘Now, we are combining the old with the new and somehow, they work together in a way that means the time difference doesn’t matter anymore. We’ve shot photographs by means of the years in related areas, and it contributes to a form of timeless vibe.’

Nothing is sort of because it appears in photographs which invite a re-evaluation. Today, they appear laptop generated of their offbeat composition, however there’s nothing unnatural within the intricately staged illusions we see right here. A glass, teetering on the sting of catastrophe, a mannequin holding a seemingly unattainable pose and a face constructed from home goods, all keep trustworthy to an enigmatic perversion of the established order.
‘We’ve enjoyed tripping down memory lane for this exhibition,’ they add. ‘ It’s so nice to relive all the collaborations and travels. Despite the diversity of our work, we have loved seeing the connection between them all coming through here.’
