Arrest warrant issued for proprietor of journey company for defrauding Seabreeze High School college students

VSO detectives have issued an arrest warrant for 56-year-old Robert Goodwin, the proprietor of a Massachusetts journey company, after 104 Seabreeze High School college students and chaperones had been defrauded out of $400,000 for a global journey that was cancelled with out refunds. 

Detectives with the Financial Crimes Unit started their investigation into Stone and Compass Travel in May of 2024 after the case was referred to VSO by the State Attorney’s Office. 

In 2023, the group of scholars and chaperones signed up with the company for a 9-day class journey to Italy and Greece which was to start in June of 2024. Each traveler paid a minimal of $3,550 in journey charges that included airfare, lodging and excursions. 

One month earlier than the journey, the company emailed the scholars it was going out of enterprise and there was no cash to supply refunds. Shortly after, the company’s web site went down, and all earlier contact cellphone numbers and electronic mail addressed had been inactive. 

The investigation revealed the company was being sued by quite a few different organizations for related allegations to incorporate Flagler College in St. Augustine. 

Goodwin faces two counts of cash laundering (over $100K) and two counts of organized scheme to defraud (over $50K). His bond is ready at $4 million.
