NNSA Seeks Proposals for AI Data Centers, Energy Projects at Savannah River Site

Washington, DC — The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) at present issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) searching for proposals from U.S. non-public sector companions to construct and energy Artificial Intelligence (AI) information facilities at Savannah River Site. This is a solicitation launched beneath the Trump Administration’s effort to advertise American management in AI and is aligned with govt orders, Removing Barriers to American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence and Unleashing American Energy which leverage federal land belongings to rapidly deploy information facilities and power technology initiatives.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, the work being carried out at NNSA to harness AI will have an impact on national security as the Manhattan Project did in the 1940s,” mentioned Under Secretary for Nuclear Security and NNSA Administrator Brandon Williams. “Today’s solicitation is a good instance of public-private partnership that accelerates scientific analysis to unravel at present’s challenges and strengthens U.S. management in AI and power infrastructure.” 

Savannah River Site is one of four sites identified by the Department of Energy (DOE) for AI infrastructure and generation projects on federal land. NNSA has identified 10 tracts of land totaling 3,103 acres at SRS for AI infrastructure projects and seeks applications that integrate innovative energy generation and storage projects with AI data centers. 

U.S. private sector partners will submit proposals to potentially enter into one or more long-term leasing agreements at the site and will be responsible for building, operating, and decommissioning each infrastructure project. Partners must secure utility interconnection agreements. Proposals will be competitively evaluated for technological readiness, financial viability, and detailed plans to complete regulatory and permitting requirements.

Background: 

• In April, DOE released a Request for Information (RFI) to inform possible use of 16 DOE sites for rapid development of data centers and generation. The Department received significant input from stakeholders including AI companies, data center developers, energy developers, and the broader public.
• On July 24, 2025, Secretary Wright and DOE announced the site selection for AI Data Center and energy infrastructure development on federal lands.
• On September 9, DOE’s Idaho Operations Office issued a Request for Application seeking applications by November 7, 2025.
• On September 30, DOE’s Oak Ridge Reservation issued a Request for Proposals.
• On September 30, NNSA has issued a Request for Proposals searching for proposals by December 5, 2025.
