Visaya Advances at The Big West Fall Invite

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—Four members of the University of Hawai’i males’s tennis workforce competed on the opening day of The Big West Fall Invite on the Arnhold Tennis Center. The males opened with simply singles matches on Thursday. UH’s 65^th-ranked Azuma Visaya, had a bye within the Round of 32, gained his Round of 16 singles match to advance to the quarterfinals.
 
Hawai’i newcomer Kosuke Nakanishi gained his first set and bounced again after dropping the second set by a break. Nakanishi pulled away within the third to defeat UC Davis’ Nadaul Cheam, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.
 
UH’s Timothy Li and Kent Mueller each gained their first units, however have been unable to carry off their opponents down the stretch, falling in three units every. Li fell to UC Irvine’s Sohrob Amiravari, 5-7. 6-4, 6-1, whereas Muller dropped his match in opposition to UC Santa Barbara’s Karel Fromel, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
 
After having fun with a bye within the Roound of 32, Hawai’i’s Visaya began his day within the Round of 16 by dispatching UC Irvine’s Rui Ning Huang in straight units, 6-3, 6-2, Visaya will face Cal Poly’s Raz Haviv within the Quarterfinal spherical. UH’s Nakanishi gained his first set however could not hold tempo and fell in three to UC Irvine’s Max Fardanesh, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
 
In doubles, Hawai’i duo of Nakanishi and Mueller will tackle Kaveh Taheri/Lucas Bollinger of UC Davis to start out the doubles competitors on Friday within the Round of 16.
