Aztec Males’s Golf in Second after First Day of Marquette Intercollegiate

ERIN HILLS, Wisc. — Phillip Kench (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) fired a 1-over-par 73 and is tied atop the leaderboard to guide the San Diego State males’s golf workforce on the primary day of the Marquette Intercollegiate Sunday in Erin Hills, Wisconsin.

Playing for the primary time of his profession within the Aztec beginning lineup, Kench carded a 73 when the stroke common for 90-player subject was 79.55 on the par-72, 7,551-yard Erin Hills Golf Course. Kench had a pair of birdies and three bogeys, and is tied with Chattanooga’s Camden Braidech (+1), one stroke forward of the trio of Rich Wills (Clemson), Wheaton Ennis (Texas A&M) and Jorge Sanchez Gutierrez (Oral Roberts) in a tie for third at +2.

SDSU is in second place out of 14 groups via the primary day at 18-over 306, three pictures again of Clemson (+15). Rounding out the highest 5 are Oral Roberts (+19), No. 16 Texas A&M (+21) and Nevada (+23). Erin Hills G.C. hosted two main championships, together with the boys’s 2017 U.S. Open and the ladies’s 2025 U.S. Open.

Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) is in a tie for sixth at +3. Kowack sank 5 birdies within the spherical, but in addition had three bogeys, a double bogey on the par-3, 163-yard ninth and a triple bogey on the par-5, 637-yard 18th.

Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) is tied for seventeenth at +5 after recording three birdies with six bogeys and a double bogey.

Kai Hirayama (Arcadia, Calif.) is tied for fifty fifth at +9 and Nathan Sampson is tied for 71st at +11. Competing as a person, Teddy Gardner is in ninetieth at +16.

The event resumes Monday with the second spherical.
