Owls Battle in Street Match at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE – Temple volleyball (11-8, 1-5 American) fell to Charlotte (14-4, 5-1 American) Sunday afternoon at Halton Arena in Charlotte, N.C. The Owls’ offense was led by Christiana Greene and Olivia Hummel, who every tallied 11 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 (Temple 24, Charlotte 26)

Charlotte opened set one with a number of scoring runs to guide by six, 14-8.

Temple responded with kills from Daniella Gonzalez Murati and Leia Harper to chop the deficit to 14-10.

An 8-0 run began by Harper included 4 kills, Christiana Greene (2), Olivia Hummel (1) and two aces by freshman Maddie Metcalf to tie the match at 19.

Hummel’s back-to-back kills gave Temple its first lead of the match, 22-21.

Charlotte rallied late to take set one, 26-24.

SET 2 (Temple 16, Charlotte 25)

Set two noticed back-and-forth motion early, with Temple staying inside three factors of Charlotte, 12-9.

The Niners then managed the rest of the body, extending their result in 20-9.

Hummel went on a solo 3-0 run to attain Temple’s closing factors of the set, however Charlotte secured the win, 25-16.

SET 3 (Temple 23, Charlotte 25)

The Owls opened set three with a 4-1 run to guide 6-4, led by Hummel, who reached double-digit kills (11).

Back-to-back kills from Greene prolonged Temple’s result in three, 14-11.

Temple was first to twenty after a kill by Alyssa Finister made it 20-19.

Charlotte closed on a late run to say set three, 25-23.
