HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) – A Keweenaw County farm is showcasing fall enjoyable for the previous few weeks of October earlier than the winter snow hits.
Apple Acres Farm is an off-grid household farm in Houghton. It’s run by two Michigan Tech alumni who selected in 2020 to dwell a less complicated life.
The farm can be house to goats, chickens, geese and honeybees. Owners Heather and Caleb Wright Wendel provide farm stays, farm excursions and farm experiences April via October. They additionally promote maple syrup, honey, and eggs straight from the farm.
Heather mentioned every part is solar-powered, and so they prefer to dwell seasonally.
“We just try and think, you know, how do we cycle things locally and try and basically just grow healthy plants and animals,” she added. “We’re so divorced from food; I think the biggest difference for us is just we live and breathe, you know, basically, our livelihood every day.”
