Minnesota Able to Compete in ITA Central Regional Championships

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota tennis crew will proceed its 2025 fall season on the ITA Central Regional Championships this weekend.

 

The ITA Central Regional Championships is scheduled for Oct. 16-20 on the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.

 

Tournament Format

The ITA Central Regional Championships characteristic 64-player singles and doubles attracts, with qualifying rounds advancing 16 gamers to the principle draw. Singles matches use best-of-three units with no-ad scoring, whereas doubles observe eight-game professional units with tiebreaks at seven. Consolation matches use shorter codecs, and all motion on courts 1–6, each indoor and outside, shall be livestreamed.

Gopher Participants

Six Gophers will compete on the ITA Central Regional Championships: seniors Sofia Pinto and Anali Kocevar, and juniors Jeselle Ante, Yinong Ma, Anlin Xie and Mia Liepert.

All Minnesota doubles pairs will compete within the doubles draw, whereas Ante and Liepert are in the principle draw for singles. The remaining Gophers will play within the qualifying rounds for a spot in the principle draw.

Fall Season Recap

The Gophers completed the thirteenth annual Gopher Invitational with a 6-1 document in doubles and a 7-2 mark in singles. Nora Knezevic led Minnesota, going 5-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles.

Mia Liepert, Aiva Schmitz and Anali Kocevar turned the primary Gophers to play within the ITA All-American Championships since 2015. Liepert earned a notable win in a comfort match, defeating UCLA’s Bianca Fernandez 7-6 (10-8), 6-2.

Schmitz and Ante headlined the ‘U’ on the Milwaukee Tennis Classic this previous weekend, advancing to the quarter finals with Schmitz advancing to the match’s ultimate, falling quick to Kansas State’s Martaa Chogsomjav 6-3, 6-4.

Minnesota most not too long ago competed within the Cyclone Invite on Oct. 3-5, incomes factors over Iowa and Kansas State. Jeselle Ante continued her profitable fall, ending 3-0 in singles and including a doubles win in opposition to Kansas State.
