Clarkson University Honors Program college students and the Institute for STEM Education will take science past the classroom this Halloween season as they lead interactive, Halloween-themed experiments on the North Country Children’s Museum’s Science Spooktacular, happening Saturday, Oct. 25, and Sunday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to five p.m.
The annual Science Spooktacular transforms the museum right into a hub of spooky discovery, the place youngsters and households can expertise the magic of science via hands-on studying. In partnership with the museum, Clarkson Honors college students have designed and can run a collection of artistic STEM-based actions that mix science training with Halloween enjoyable.
One featured experiment, Static Bats, lets youngsters discover static electrical energy by charging balloons and utilizing them to make light-weight paper bats “fly. The activity teaches how opposite charges attract and like charges repel—all while mixing science with a touch of Halloween magic.
In Creature Camouflage, young scientists will learn how animals hide from predators through color matching, mimicry, and active camouflage. Participants will design and disguise their own paper animals, hide them in a 3D habitat, and watch a programmed “predator” seek for them—an imaginative mix of biology, know-how, and artwork.
The Bone Bridge & Skeletal System exercise connects engineering and anatomy in a single spooktacular session. Kids will construct Halloween-themed “Bone Bridges” utilizing Q-Tips and pipe cleaners to discover the ideas of beams, columns, and forces, then change gears to craft their very own Q-Tip skeletons whereas studying about bones, joints, and the human physique.
