Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong: To ask the Minister for Trade and Industry (a) whether or not Malaysia’s ban on renewable power exports will stop Singapore from importing renewable power from different international locations within the area like Thailand and Laos by means of present powerlines in Malaysia; and (b) whether or not Singapore is in talks with Malaysia to contemplate joint renewable power initiatives that may assist safe power provides.

1. Malaysia and Singapore have been working carefully at bilateral and multilateral platforms on our decarbonization efforts. Malaysia’s determination to disallow the export of renewable power to Singapore doesn’t prolong to the passage of electrical energy from different international locations, by means of Malaysia, to Singapore. The Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project or the LTMS-PIP, which commenced on 23 June 2022, is one such instance. Under the LTMS-PIP, we’re importing as much as 100 megawatts (MW) of renewable hydropower from Lao PDR by means of Thailand and Malaysia by way of present interconnections for a two-year interval.
