Pictures exhibit showcasing U.S-Mexico border opening at Sioux City Art Center

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A brand new artwork exhibit is coming to Sioux City that options a spot that’s each divided and deeply linked — the U.S.-Mexico border.

Xavier Tavera’s Borderlands images assortment opens on the Sioux City Art Center on Thursday, October 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. As part of its debut, Tavera will maintain an artist dialog at 6 p.m.

Since 2016, Tavera has been photographing alongside the border and goals to indicate that it’s greater than only a wall.

Art Center Curator Christopher Atkins mentioned the exhibit presents a singular have a look at life on the border.

“It’s a very interesting space in that it’s both in the United States and in Mexico. Some of the photographs that you’ll see, you aren’t aware of what side of the border that he’s on. So it’s a beautiful exhibition. I think people are really, really excited about it,” commented Atkins.

Atkins mentioned the exhibit takes a extra private method to a politically charged topic.

“We all know it’s a hot button topic. We all know it’s front and center in the news, but Javier really wants people to sort of see it on their own terms, see it outside of the news coverage. See it from someone who is an artist, but someone who really wants to kind of capture both sides of the area,” defined Atkins.

The reception is free and open to the general public, and the exhibit will stay on show till March 29, 2026.
