Smikle Named to Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Senior Kaylene Smikle of the ten^th-ranked Maryland girls’s basketball workforce was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List Tuesday by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
 
The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award honors the highest taking pictures guard in girls’s Division I school basketball. It is known as after the Class of 1993 Hall of Famer, Ann Meyers Drysdale.
 
Smikle is a Preseason All-Big Ten honoree. She earned All-Big Ten First Team honors from the media and Second Team honors from the league’s head coaches final 12 months. She led Maryland in scoring with 17.9 factors per recreation and in steals with 50 on the 12 months. Smikle was second within the Big Ten in free throws made (164), whereas averaging 82.4 % from the foul line.
 
The Terrapins have been predicted to complete No. 2 within the Big Ten, behind simply UCLA. Seniors Yarden Garzon and Kaylene Smikle have been named to the 10-player All-Big Ten Preseason Team.
 
Maryland returns All-Big Ten honorees Smikle, Bri McDaniel and starter Saylor Poffenbarger. 

Head coach Brenda Frese and her workers signed two transfers in All-Big Ten honoree Yarden Garzon (Indiana) and 2025 ACC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Oluchi Okananwa (Duke). The Terrapins additionally welcome freshmen Lea Bartelme, Addi Mack, Rainey Welson, Nicole Fritea and Marya Boiko to the roster.

 

The Terrapins will host Division II Point Park Thursday at 6 p.m. on the XFINITY Center. Admission is free and the sport can be streamed on B1G+.

 

Maryland will formally open the season Monday, Nov. 3 with a 7 p.m. matchup vs. Loyola (Md.) on the XFINITY Center. Tickets for Monday’s recreation can be found here and will probably be streamed on B1G+.
