30 October 2025- A brand new exhibition highlighting the resilience of sufferers on the Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reconstructive surgical procedure hospital in Jordan, has opened at London’s Oxo Gallery.
Partnering with the Egyptian photographer Rehab Eldalil and the worldwide competition of pictures, Cortona On The Move, MSF has introduced From the Ashes, I Rose, a free weeklong present to the Southbank.
The Amman hospital gives specialised rehabilitative care to war-wounded sufferers from throughout the Middle East, together with medically evacuated kids from Gaza. Since 2006, the power has been providing surgical procedure, physiotherapy, psychological well being assist, and prosthetic fittings.
This participatory, multidisciplinary exhibition confronts the devastating results of warfare on civilians within the area.
Yet as an alternative of specializing in the sufferers’ struggling, Rehab has labored with them to reinterpret their experiences as profound acts of resilience and resistance.
Speaking on the exhibition’s opening, MSF UK’s Executive Director Dr Natalie Roberts stated, “The Reconstructive Surgery Programme (RSP) in Amman was established by MSF in 2006 to provide surgical, rehabilitative and psychological care for victims of the Iraq war. Soon after, the hospital opened its doors to treat war-wounded patients from the across the region, including Syria, Yemen, and Palestine.
As we prepare to mark the twentieth anniversary of the hospital’s founding, these images capture the patients’ determination, and the dedication of our staff. Rehab’s photographs show these men, women and children’s extraordinary perseverance and fortitude with great dignity. Their association with the hospital demonstrates that with the right level of support even individuals with the most devastating injuries can begin to reconstruct their own lives, and that medical humanitarian assistance can, and should, go beyond the purely lifesaving.”
Rehab added that she has acquired a constructive response to her present in London, “From the Ashes, I Rose is an opportunity for the local community in the UK and MSF supporters to engage in dialogue with the brave and inspirational patients of the reconstructive hospital in Amman. The exhibition counters the many dehumanising narratives of civilians impacted by war and violence. It celebrates the individuality and resilience of the patients beyond their injuries and trauma. I’m deeply honoured to be invited here and very humbled by the great turnout.”
A complementary photographic exhibition depicting MSF’s lifesaving medical work around the globe is being held alongside Rehab’s undertaking.
The reveals run from Wednesday 29 October to Sunday 02 November 2025 on the Oxo Gallery, Oxo Tower Wharf, Barge House St, Southbank, London SE1 9PH, 11am–6pm day by day.
