College of Nottingham college students struggle ‘insane’ cull of programs

Some college students stated they solely came upon what was occurring through a BBC Instagram post, external on Thursday morning.

“I think it’s disgusting that we have been told this information through news outlets, rather than the actual university,” stated Lily-Rose Marsden, who’s finding out German and Spanish.

Although Ms Marsden will be capable to full her course, she is worried for future college students who won’t have the choice of finding out trendy international languages (MFL).

“When I thought about it and reflected I thought ‘This is insane’, they’re not offering MFL’,” she stated.

“The subject is already going extinct in schools because the government has made it not compulsory.”

Charlie Blair, who’s finding out German and Russian, has started a petition, external towards trendy languages programs being eliminated.

She is a part of a gaggle of scholars representing the languages societies on the college, who’re working collectively to take motion.

“It’s really not fair on the lecturers, they’re the ones who I feel most for,” she stated.

“Everybody is so passionate about their course and then to just be cut off like that, saying you’re not important, we don’t value you, I think it’s really wrong.”
