As a part of a continued partnership, the St. Johns Cultural Council and St. Johns County are increasing the Art in Public Spaces program to incorporate the Health & Human Services Building. The enlargement will start with a chance for photographers to seize the picture of veterans.
There isn’t any higher time to acknowledge our servicemen and ladies, because the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps have a good time their 250th anniversaries in 2025, and the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026.
VFW Post 2391 and member Rick McAllister (author, photographer, VFW life member, First City Honor Guard and Vietnam fight veteran) initially reached out to the St. Johns Cultural Council with the concept. The St. Johns Cultural Council, St. Johns County, St. Johns County Health & Human Services and Veterans’ Services have been unanimously in favor of the idea and help this intersection of artwork, neighborhood and honoring veterans.
Local, regional and nationwide artists have been invited to submit as much as three of their unique photographs that include a picture of a veteran and an American flag. A jury will choose 25 works for “Stories of American Veterans” to be displayed within the reFRAME Gallery on the St. Johns County Health & Human Services Building, 200 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine.
The opening reception shall be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, on the St. Johns County Health & Human Services Building. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and meet the gifted photographers and veterans.
At 1 p.m. Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, the highest three winners and Best of Show award shall be introduced on the VFW Post 2391, 6184 U.S. 1 S, St. Augustine.
