Baba Miller Named to Big 12 Starting Five – College of Cincinnati Athletics

CINCINNATI – Baba Miller, a senior on the Cincinnati men’s basketball team, has been honored on the Big 12’s Starting Five for his play last week, the conference office announced Monday. Miller is joined on the Starting Five, which is new this season, by Arizona’s Koa Peat, Texas Tech’s Christian Anderson, BYU’s AJ Dybantsa and Kansas’ Darryn Peterson.

Miller opened the season with 18 points and 10 boards in the Bearcats’ 94-63 victory over Western Carolina last Monday before tallying 24 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks on 8-of-9 from the field in a 74-64 win over Georgia State Friday night. He became the first Bearcat with consecutive double-doubles to open a season since Bobby Brannen in 1997-98. Against the Panthers, Miller also became the first Bearcat to record at least 24 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a game since Eric Hicks accomplished the feat against North Carolina A&T Dec. 30, 2005. Cincinnati has had nine such games by four different players (Kenyon Martin recorded six 24-10-3 games) dating back to the 1996-97 season.

The native of Mallorca, Spain is one of 18 players nationally – and the only in the Big 12 – with a pair of double-doubles. He’s second in the conference and 16th nationally with an 83.3% field-goal percentage and also leads the Big 12 and ranks ninth nationally with 9.5 defensive rebounds per contest.

Cincinnati continues its four-game homestand to start the season when it takes on in-state foe Dayton at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fifth Third Arena. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and aired locally on 700 WLW.
