Boy, 8, dies after being discovered unresponsive in pool close to Shepparton

An eight-year-old boy has died after being discovered unresponsive in a show house pool close to Shepparton on Sunday.

Emergency companies have been referred to as to a property in Kialla, 10 minutes south of Shepparton, after the boy was discovered simply earlier than 7:00pm. 

The baby acquired medical help on the scene however died.

A spokesperson for G.J. Gardner Homes stated the corporate was “devastated”.

The firm provided condolences to the boy’s household and stated workers have been “understandably distressed”.

It confirmed emergency companies attended the scene and stated the pool space was fenced and compliant with security laws.

The spokesperson stated the corporate was cooperating with investigators and wouldn’t present additional remark “out of respect for the family”.

A WorkSafe spokesperson stated it was making enquiries to “determine whether action is required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act”.

Community shock

Nearby resident Ernst Ndisa stated he was unhappy to listen to concerning the younger boy’s loss of life within the neighbourhood.

He stated the show house was solely a few months outdated, and it was a regarding incident.

“Personally, I am very concerned. There are plenty of display homes in the area, but this is the only one that has a swimming pool, so this is very concerning for this to happen,” he stated.

He stated lots of kids reside within the property.

“We are really touched and wish something like this would never happen in our neighbourhood.

“It’s very unhappy. We are actually shocked.”

Lifesaving Victoria points security warning

Lifesaving Victoria said the incident was a “unhappy and well timed reminder” of the risks children face around water.

The organisation said children remain among the highest-risk groups, with home pools, bathtubs and dams the most common locations for drownings.

Since 2020–21, 28 people have died in private pools, about 10 per cent of all fatal drownings.

Lifesaving Victoria urged mother and father and carers to intently supervise kids, enrol them in swimming and water security classes, study CPR, and guarantee pool areas have been correctly secured.
