Margaret Land Keitt Smith, 88, of Louisville, KY, handed away on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Born on December 29, 1936, in Newberry, S.C., she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lawrence Keitt, Jr.
Margaret graduated from Maryville College in Maryville, TN, and later from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. She started her profession instructing kindergarten in Charlotte, NC, and later devoted a number of years to caring for her two kids. Before retiring, she shared her love of music as a piano trainer in La Grange, KY, the place she joyfully guided many college students.
A lifelong and lively member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Margaret was identified for her light spirit, steadfast religion, and the kindness she prolonged to everybody she met.
She was preceded in loss of life by her husband, H. Howard Smith, and her sister, Anna Keitt McIlwain.
Margaret is survived by her kids, Robert James Smith (Melissa) of Trinity, N.C., and Peggy Keitt Smith Waters of Bardstown; her grandchildren, Troy (Maria Luisa) Smith, Heather Smith, Autumn Harris (Daniel), Noah Waters, Zachary Stone, Andrew Smith, and Connor Waters; seven great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, James McIlwain; and lots of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will likely be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown, KY. Visitation will happen from 10:00 a.m. till midday, with a service at midday officiated by the Reverend James Wilkinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions could also be made to the church of your alternative.
