6kg fleece shorn from uncared for sheep

A severely overgrown sheep has been rescued from an Auckland life-style block after being discovered carrying almost 6kg of matted wool.

The ewe, dubbed Fiona in a nod to the world well-known Shrek whose 27kg fleece as soon as made world headlines, had been deserted on the property for 2 years.

She was struggling below the burden of an overgrown fleece that was matted and caked with dust, faeces, and bugs.

SPCA inspector Amanda stated the ewe was clearly uncomfortable and overheating when she arrived on the SPCA’s Māngere Centre.

Staff offered meals, water, and shelter earlier than full veterinary checks, which she handed with no main well being issues.

SPCA groups then organized for an area shearer to take away the wool that had constructed up within the final two years.

Fiona had been carrying round 5.95kg of wool, greater than a sheep needs to be allowed to develop.

“With it gone, Fiona perked up straight away, feeling lighter and ready for her new life,” SPCA workers stated.

Once recovered, Fiona was almost able to be listed for adoption, however Amanda, who already owned an older sheep needing firm, determined to undertake her, saying Fiona was now set for “the nice life she deserves”.
