Brea Duncan has an opportunity to place what she realized out of the pool into the water.
The Armstrong Para swimmer, who swims with the Vernon Kokanee Club, is in Toronto for the Ken Demchuk International meet, which begins Friday, Nov. 28.
Duncan lately returned from a visit to Chile as a part of a six-member Canadian Para Swim contingent, and whereas she didn’t get into the water, the knowledge she amassed is large for her future.
“The overall experience (in Chile) was an amazing learning experience about the complexity of international competition, but her classification is considered ‘still in progress’ so she didn’t race,” mentioned her mother, Jocelyn.
“She handled it well. To travel and be part of a team for an event like that was incredible for her development as an athlete/young adult.”
The Duncans are ready to listen to from Swimming Canada what is required to finish Brea’s course of.
Duncan was joined in watching their compatriots by Mathilde Falardeau of Quebec.
Canada despatched six six swimmers to Chile, together with Duncan and Falardeau, to the 2025 Youth Parapan American Games in Santiago, in what the group known as “a stepping stone for the next generation of Para swimmmers.”
Alyssa Smyth of Orangeville (Ont.) led the way in which with 4 gold medals. The 15-year-old was victorious within the 50 free, 100 free, 100 breast and 100 fly. Fellow 15-year-old Veronica MacLellan of Charlottetown received gold in 100 again and added bronze within the 50 free.
Roy Pan, 18, of Victoria, earned silver within the 50 fly with Lucas Van Herk, 17, of Chilliwack, capturing bronze within the 200 free.
“As the next generation of swimmers continue their development, the Youth Parapan American Games experience lays the foundation for international success and long-term growth in Canada’s Paralympic Program,” mentioned Swimming Canada.
Duncan will proceed to compete nationally, beginning this weekend in Toronto.
