IHSA soccer state championship video games postponed Saturday

NORMAL — The Illinois High School Association has postponed half of its soccer state championship video games due to the closure of the Illinois State University campus attributable to an impending winter storm anticipated to hit Illinois this weekend.

The Class 5A, 6A, 7A, and 8A state championship video games scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 29 are being postponed, the IHSA wrote in a release. The Class 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A video games on Friday stay on as scheduled at Hancock Stadium, on the campus of ISU.

The IHSA later Friday introduced the 5A and 6A video games shall be performed Tuesday, Dec. 2 at ISU. Dates and occasions for the 7A and 8A video games are anticipated to be introduced Saturday.

The IHSA is working with ISU management to find out the dates and occasions of the 4 postponed state title video games. The ISU campus is closed on Saturday out of “an abundance of caution,” with 5 to 12 inches of snow anticipated up and down the state, in keeping with forecasts.

“This storm is expected to create dangerous conditions on roads, bridges, and overpasses, with the potential for power outages,” the IHSA wrote on its website. “The safety of student-athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators remains our highest priority.”

IHSA government director Craig Anderson known as the postponement “unprecedented,” saying that every one groups have been alerted and that the video games are anticipated to be performed “in the coming days.” The IHSA says the video games is not going to be performed on Sunday, Nov. 30.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of these schools and communities as we work to determine the best and safest solution to rescheduling these contests,” Anderson mentioned.
