Presenting almost 150 photos made between 1920 and 2017, Instante/revelación highlights the work of 13 famend photographers who function prominently within the historical past of the medium in Mexico, together with Lola and Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Graciela Iturbide, and Pablo Ortiz Monasterio.

Through a dynamic collection of photographs, the publication explores a few of the intertwined sociocultural forces that form life and artwork in Mexico. Among the pictures are gorgeous shows of landscapes, structure, and wildlife from throughout the nation; depictions of every day life; and portraits of esteemed Mexican artists and writers similar to Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Octavio Paz. An illustrated essay examines the numerous function photobooks and periodicals performed in disseminating these photographs.

The photographers featured on this quantity are linked by friendship, affect, and collaboration. Their works, when considered collectively as a collective narrative, reveal the spirit of fruitful change that characterizes this thrilling chapter in Mexico’s photographic historical past.

This quantity is printed to accompany an exhibition on view on the J. Paul Getty Museum on the Getty Center from September 1, 2026, to January 3, 2027.
