Boys Swimming

A loaded area was in attendance on the annual Lakeview Invitationals in boys swimming on Saturday, Jan. 3. Byron Center, ranked No. 1 in Division 2, completed first with 492 factors with No. 6 Dexter second at 384.5. Lakeview was seventh with 216.5.

Major Baumann had the perfect day amongst Spartan swimmers with two high 4 finishes. Baumann completed second within the 100 freestyle in a time of 47.52. The junior additionally completed fourth within the 50 free and was a part of a third-place 200 free relay crew, together with Easton Kline, Lavell Marshall, Josh Neal. Lakeview senior Peyton Elder completed second in diving with 440.3 factors. Other high eight finishes for the Spartans included Everett Yoder in fourth within the 100 breaststroke, Kline taking sixth within the 100 backstroke, Marshall took seventh within the 200 IM.

NOTE: The annual All-City Boys Swimming and Diving Championship is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Battle Creek Central High School.

Wrestling

Harper Creek went 5-0 as a crew on the New Hudsonville Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 3, beating Hartland, Hudsonville, Zeeland West, Cedar Springs and Comstock Park. Grayson Damron (106 kilos), Jackson Pennock (138), Israel Waite (144), Brock Yancer (215), Sean Johnson (285) all went undefeated on the day.

NOTE: The annual All-City Wrestling Tournament is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Battle Creek Central High School.

Girls Basketball

Mya Porter performed massive after halftime as Coldwater (3-4) outscored Lakeview 23-10 within the second half because the Cardinals beat the Spartans 43-29 in non-conference ladies basketball through the vacation break. Porter led all scorers with 16 factors, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Da’Nayah Williams had six factors to steer Lakeview.

Union City improved to 7-0 after the Chargers defeated Homer 75-59 in a showcase sport performed in Indiana the place the film ‘Hoosiers’ was filmed. Ellie Williams had 20 factors and 14 rebounds for Union City with Callie Wilkinson including 17 factors.

Marshall defeated Battle Creek Central 66-41 in a non-conference sport over the break. Ally Koenig had 17 factors for the Redhawks with Lola Saber getting 11 and Grace Shubert including 10.

Boys Basketball

Marshall had a powerful 68-49 win over Niles Brandywine in a showcase sport at Spring Arbor University. Lincoln Fuller had 17 factors and 6 rebounds to steer Marshall with Clark Erwin including 13 factors with Lee Hall getting 12 factors. The Redhawks are actually 6-1.
