Who’s Publishing What: one thing on the market within the distance : College of Dayton, Ohio

Flash-fiction grasp Grant Faulkner and photographer Gail Butensky have partnered to create something out there in the distance (UMN Press), a “flash novel” of tales and images.

The e-book tells of two lovers taking a reckless, looking out street journey by means of the American West. Dawn is a photographer who captures desert landscapes. Jonny drives simply to drive, operating away from the tip of time or operating towards the tip of time, searching for a house at the same time as his restlessness overtakes him. By turns humorous, poignant and heartbreaking, one thing on the market within the distance is massive in feelings whereas temporary in phrases. An extraordinary collaboration between phrase and picture, Dawn and Jonny’s journey transports readers to a spot, achingly acquainted, populated by love, loss and marvel.

Faulkner is the co-founder of 100 Word Story, the co-founder of the Flash Fiction Institute and the co-host of the podcast Memoir Nation. He is the creator of a number of books, together with The Art of Brevity: Crafting the Very Short Story (UNM Press) and All the Comfort Sin Can Provide. He will serve on the college on the 2026 Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop.

Butensky is a famend photographer whose work has been featured on quite a few document covers in addition to in books and magazines. She is the creator of the images e-book Every Bend.
