The Met Office has warned of persistent and heavy rain and a danger of flooding

Police Scotland says there’s a excessive danger of journey disruption in areas lined by an amber climate warning for heavy rain.

The Met Office is forecasting elements of Angus, Perth and Kinross and Aberdeenshire may see up 80mm (3in) of rainfall on Thursday – and accumulations of 120mm (4in) on greater floor.

The amber warning begins at midnight and ends at 18:00.

A yellow weather warning for rain is in place for a bigger space, which incorporates the Highlands, Moray and Aberdeen, till midnight on Friday.

Police have urged drivers to heed the warnings.

Head of highway policing, Ch Supt Scott McCarren, stated: “The amber warning for rain means there is a high risk of disruption on the road network and travel conditions may be hazardous.

“Motorists are subsequently suggested to take additional warning when driving and keep away from non-essential journey till highway situations enhance.”

He said people should plan ahead and make sure they were prepared for delays.

Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop said road and rail travel could be affected.

“If you have to travel, please make sure you plan your journey before you set off.”

The Met Office stated the amber warning included a forecast for persistent and heavy rain.

The Met Office added: “This is expected to lead to some surface water and river flooding across the area.”

The Met Office stated there could possibly be flooding in some locations as a result of the bottom was already moist attributable to current rain and thawing snow.
