Journey restrictions on New Jersey highways, together with AC Expressway, Backyard State Parkway and NJ Turnpike

TRENTON, N.J. (WPVI) — The New Jersey Department of Transportation has issued an Emergency Traffic Regulation Order that quickly lowers all posted pace limits to 35 miles per hour on Interstate and State highways in New Jersey, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, January 25.

The pace restrict discount applies to:

• All Interstate highways in New Jersey

• All U.S. and State highways in New Jersey

• The Atlantic City Expressway

Governor Mikie Sherrill declared a statewide state of emergency Friday forward of what she warned might be probably the most important winter storm New Jersey has seen in almost a decade.

The state of emergency took impact at 5 p.m. Saturday and applies to all 21 counties.

“Beginning Saturday evening and continuing into Monday, New Jersey is expected to see heavy snowfall and severe conditions, and my top priority is the safety of our residents,” Sherrill stated in a press release. “We are prepared for this moment, but we do need the people of New Jersey to keep themselves safe as well.”

Sherrill urged residents to remain off the roads, significantly on Sunday, to permit plow crews and emergency personnel to work safely.

“I’m asking all of you, please stay off the roads,” she stated. “This is a good weekend to stay in, watch some football, play a board game with your kids, but please stay off the roads Sunday.”
