Whatever the problem, if you happen to’re having a nasty day, if you happen to’re careworn about life, in case your spouse has left you otherwise you’re confused about one thing, Icelanders advise you to move to your native pool and go swimming. It’s higher than a therapist, it’s higher than beating your self up about it: the mix between train, leisure and sinking into one thing pure has a robust impact.
It’s an strategy I took actually once I determined to spend a 12 months swimming within the chilly seas of Scandinavia to see if I may work out the right way to lead a much less nerve-racking life. Burned out with workplace work, I threw myself into iceberg-filled seas in Greenland, Viking spas in Iceland and on seashores, harbours and off piers throughout Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
